Journeys great and small
In Travemünde, more than any other Baltic resort, shipping has made a lasting mark. The large ferries bound for Scandinavia are visible everywhere as they sail up the Trave. Shipping companies offer inexpensive excursions from Travemünde to Scandinavia, and information about these trips can be obtained direct from the new “Hafenhaus”.
If you just want to sniff a little Baltic sea air, you can embark from the Trave promenade. One-hour Baltic trips leave every hour in the summer and several times daily during the rest of the year. These tours are popular, with on-board shopping and dining facilities. The boats make a detour to Scandinavia Quay, giving passengers an impressive view of the two-kilometre quay and the ferries.
But if you are looking for something more luxurious, cruise ships also tie up directly at the Trave promenade. Baltic cruises on the dreamboat MS Deutschland, for example, depart from Travemünde.
